London: National Portrait Award

Gloriously, London has approximately 18 million free museums. I happened upon the National Portrait Gallery en route to Trafalgar Square and popped in to check it out.

(Side note: Saw Kate’s official portrait and I still think it looks not great.)

The National Portrait Award recognizes new and emerging artists and excellence in portraiture. While all the portraits are painted the variety of technique and finished “look” is really incredible. I found myself leaning toward the more natural looking ones though I enjoyed piecing together the symbolism of some of the more abstract ones. Here are my favorites:
